Broadband Comparison Sites: It’s not always about money

Friday, 30 October 2009

A lot of people know all about using comparison sites. Not just for broadband but for every aspect of life from shopping to holidays, from electricity to insurance. But more than any other form of comparison, broadband is the most useful because it lets you take a look at all the features of a busy and difficult to understand marketplace in plain English, and root out exactly what you need from a mass of special offers. What people don’t realise is that it’s not just the cheapest broadband offers you find on comparison sites; it’s the best overall package too.

We all like our gas, electricity and water bills to be cheap because no matter what the price, we’ll still end up with the same service. We won’t find a more expensive deal that gives us water that’s healthier or a gas that’s safer. We won’t a cheaper deal on electricity that only powers certain types of appliance. Generally, everything stays the same no matter what the cost, so cheapest always wins!

With broadband, the opposite can true. Not all cheap deals cut corners and not all expensive deals are worth the money, but there’s plenty of middle ground where it’s important to look out for extras and details of a contract. A broadband deal has many different parts that you don’t need to consider with other utilities. It’s far more comparable to a holiday where you need everything from the plane to the resort to be perfect to have the best time.

Speed is a major factor, but what about length of contract? Bandwidth limits? Hardware? Software? Security features? Technical Support? Customer Service? Reliability? These are just some of the things to think about when looking at broadband and they are some of the many things that you can set as ‘important’ when you compare broadband online. Some things will be more important than others to different people – so you shouldn’t have to worry about just choosing what the majority of people think is the ‘best’ just because. You can set your own priorities and after that you can then still find the cheapest broadband available at that price.

So next time you consider comparing broadband don’t forget you can do more than just sort for the lowest price first! You might find exactly what you’re looking for.
